Gaziantep city, located in the western part of southeastern Turkey, is the largest trade and industrial center. With a history dating back nearly three millennia, Gaziantep has been constructed by significant civilizations such as the Akkadians, Hittites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Urartians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, Sassanids, Arabs, and finally the Turks. Each of these civilizations contributed in their own ways to the socio-economic and cultural development of the city and its surroundings. The historical importance of Gaziantep in economic and socio-cultural realms has continued as the historical center of the Silk Road. Today, the Gaziantep region clearly benefits from this historical economic, social, and cultural heritage.
